山田茉莉

Maria Yamada was born in 1999 in Tokyo, Japan. Maria is a multidisciplinary artist who focuses on painting and illustration. She is currently living and works in NY.
When she was 13 years old, she moved to Hawaii by herself and developed her English skills there. Maria studies oil painting, acrylic painting, illustration, and other multimedia.
The appeal of her works would be shown by the trademark approach that is drowned in dream-like vivid and highly contrasting colors. In her chaotic world, Maria mainly focuses on the idea of contradiction such as life and death, love and indifference, hope and despair, etc…
Her exploration between the lifeless distorted human body, and organs, together with flora, vivid colors, and
butterflies
are the symbol of contradiction within humans. The motivations for her to keep depicting butterflies are that butterfly conveys the meaning of spiritual rebirth, transformations, hope, and life. In addition, a butterfly is Maria Yamada’s family emblem, which is one of her important motifs.
Yamada is working on her BFA in painting at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn,
NY.
